OAL Level 6 Diploma in Strategic Logistics Management Course

The Business School (UK) supporting logistics professionals with new qualifications

Over the last 9 months the Business School (UK) has developed a new strategic management qualification for the logistics industry. Led by Helen Chambers Operations Director, and in partnership with the OAL awarding body, we have worked with industry partners and experts to bring forward this Level 6 qualification. We asked Helen about her reasoning and approach.

Why build a whole new qualification?

“As time and technology has moved on, and we have gone through massive global changes, the time had come to develop qualifications to meet the current and emerging needs of the industry. We haven’t seen much reaction in the marketplace to bring things up to date.“

How does it meet the needs of learners and employers?

“Firstly the content has a modern focus. The new Level 6 qualification is firmly at a strategic level, and focuses on logistics strategy within an organisation, with planning, strategy development and supply chain optimisation at its’ core – along with personal effectiveness in a senior role.

Secondly, It is a practical size compared to many qualifications at this level. We wanted learners to be able to study alongside the challenges of a full-time role.

Thirdly, the assessment methodology. We wanted learners to be able to take their assessment at any time during their registration. At a time that suits them, their work patterns, commitments and home life. No timed exams, no stress and fear – the assignments can be undertaken in the comfort of their own home or office with access to all your learning resources and notes. And they can be submitted at any time within the registration period – even if you are working shifts and want to submit at 3 in the morning!’

We also wanted employers to get a benefit out of supporting learners. To this end we incorporate a business research project, offering added value to their employers by utilising real workplace situations.

How is it delivered?

Helen Chambers, Operations Director at The Business School has said ‘we are unique in that our new qualifications and courses are delivered on a ‘anytime, anywhere’ basis, and this is most apparent in our approach to assessment. The Business School Started in 2014, developing a unique Virtual Learning Environment to deliver anywhere, anytime learning leading to professional qualifications in Logistics Management, across a range of levels. Learners have a secure account and need no additional software to access. It is available on computer, laptop, tablet and smartphone.

We also appreciate that learners need support. Learners can book support with tutors through the platform. We don’t leave you on your own.

More from Helen

We are very excited about this development which we have undertaken with OAL, an Ofqual registered Awarding Organisation, which is forward looking and innovative. This qualification will also be eligible for ELCAS funding for those serving in the Armed Forces or working towards resettlement. The Business School has a long history of working with the military and is well versed in the challenges faced in this environment.

This development at Level 6, a level which leads directly into post-graduate studies is ideally suited to graduates in a variety of disciplines wishing to progress in the logistics industry – an exciting and fast moving environment – the logistics sector is a key driver of domestic economic and employment growth, contributing £163 billion to the UK economy. Statistics show that in 2023, the UK logistics market was valued at US\$510.6 billion. IMARC Group predicts that the market will grow to US\$860.3 billion by 2032, with a 6% compound annual growth rate between 2024 and 2032.

All of this adds up to a challenging, exciting career path, which The Business School recognises and hence has invested in this new qualification development. The Level 6 follows on from our launch of a qualification, through OAL, at Level 5 late last year, and will continue to develop further qualifications at career entry levels into 2025. All of which are based on the same ‘anytime, anywhere’ principles with flexible assessment. Which means you can study in this way right up to post-graduate level, knowing that your qualifications are nationally recognised, delivered by a high quality provider with a strong history.
